In 2011, a group of Asheville investors joined together to form Biltmore School Development, LLC in order to rescue the original Biltmore School, a 1927 architectural treasure. ARCA Design developed a minimal addition and renovation plan that adapted the exterior and interior elements, retrofitted the exterior envelope with spray-foam insulation and new windows, and provided a high-efficiency water-source heat pump HVAC system. The project was the recipient of a Griffin Award in 2014.
The additional building elements speak to the original character and language of the building, while the new building systems allow functionality in accordance with 21st century technologies.
